Georgios Kyparissous Athens, Greece
Alumni Profile
"(The project based learning experience…) was wonderful. I hope more schools would offer a similar experience to their students. I believe that hands on approach is the only way you can advance in this trade and the projects are structured like real shots in a real production environment. You get a little bit better with every project." – Georgios Kyparissous
Why did you decide to attend Lost Boys?
It mainly came down to the quality of the demo reels produced by previous students. They were simply in another league from any of the other schools. Other factors were the amount of projects you got to work on and the fact that the owners used to own a studio of their own so they had real working knowledge of the industry.
What was your favorite project and why?
Probably the insect one from the standard projects just because I learned so much working on it and the Monkeyhead from my personal ones because, even though it caused me some headaches, I was really satisfied with the result.
What was the best part of your Lost Boys experience?
My classmates (for all their contributions and critique), Mark Bénard (for sharing knowledge and helping everyone out so much) and learning so much in so little time. Oh… And getting a job right out of school.
Did you have any surprising experiences?
Yes. But they were all good. Leaving school, I kind of felt like leaving family behind.
What did you like to do outside of the classroom?
Well…. Spending time with my wife, more 3D stuff (its a hobby as well), watching movies, going to concerts when I can, eating out when I can, going out when the weather is nice.
What would you say to prospective students considering Lost Boys?
Just go. The experience for everyone in my class was amazing so I would highly recommend it .
What was your most memorable moment from your year attending Lost Boys?
The fact that for a year we could all step away from our normal lives and concentrate on what we needed to learn to survive in this industry. Oh… And the great welcome from Lost Boys.
Did you learn anything new about yourself?
I learned that, in order to work efficiently, I need a really specific schedule. If you have certain milestones you are trying to achieve, everything is more streamlined and flows much better. Lost Boys has a really tight schedule for the projects and that is a good thing. Things intensify as you go along.
Can you share any opportunities that have resulted from your Lost Boys experience?
I got several offers out of school and picked my first job at Anthem working on Sanctuary out of those. Its just been a really interesting experience from there on. I have worked on projects I really loved. At times things can get a little frustrating but the result can be really rewarding.
